John is a retired educator who entered the field as a special education teacher instructing students with multiple and severe disabilities and autism.  He was the first principal of Brennen School, the Delaware Autism Program in Newark, Delaware and retired as Senior Director of Special Education, Christina School District.  He is most proud of his work in moving Brennen School-Delaware Autism Program from a self-contained special school to a complex program offering education options for students with significant levels of autism in a full range of school and community settings. John holds graduate degrees including a Masters in Child Development, University of Delaware and Doctor of Education: Special Education, Argosy University.  John and his partner, Gary Wirt, have owned a home in Rehoboth since 1985 and built their current summer home in 1996. They are full-time residents of Historic New Castle and enjoy being the caretakers of a 225-year-old Federal-style home and gardens along the banks of the Delaware River.  He is committed to advocating for a cohesive community and the preservation of our unique neighborhoods.  John is a current member of the City of Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission.
