about
Arlene Pietranton
Board Member
Arlene has been coming to Rehoboth Beach since 1989. She and her husband Frank bought their home in Schoolvue in 2009. They divide their time between here and Washington, DC. Having grown up in Rhode Island, where nothing is far from the ocean, Arlene especially enjoys being “near the ocean’s edge” and the friendly Rehoboth Beach community.
Prior to retiring, Arlene worked at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), including 18 years as Chief Executive Officer. ASHA is the professional, scientific, and credentialing association for nearly 240,000: audiologists; speech-language pathologists; speech, language, and hearing scientists; and student, international and support personnel affiliates – with a staff of 300 individuals. Before that Arlene worked at the George Washington University Medical Center for 16 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist and then as a member of the medical center administration.
Arlene has worked with, served on and/or led volunteer committees and boards of civic, professional, cross-sector, and religious organizations at the local, state, national, and international levels – with budgets ranging from under $10,000 to over $65 M. She has a deep commitment to social justice, equity, and accessibility. Her interests include international history and culture, reading, theater, travel, exercise, and spending time with family and friends.
