Below is information about issues of importance affecting life in Rehoboth Beach.
Wastewater Ocean Outfall - The City of Rehoboth Beach was required, under the terms of a consent order from the Dept. of Natural Resources, to eliminate the discharge of treated effluent from the Rehoboth Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant into the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. The city, after detailed studies and the evaluation of all options, has financed and constructed an ocean outfall in order to comply with that order. The current issue is an ongoing discussion regarding the City transferring ownership and control of the outfall to Sussex County. A Town Hall Meeting in January 2019 revealed strong opposition to this proposal. See also Outfall History.
Comprehensive Development Plan - The State of Delaware requires each municipality to submit a Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) every decade to outline their vision and goals for the use of land under their management. The CDP for Rehoboth Beach must be submitted in 2020. The Planning Commission is responsible for developing the CDP for the City. Planning Commission Webpage 2010 CDP
